10 March 2005 - 6:02 pm Okay, call me a complete geek? nerd? How about just plain freak? I went for a walk the other night, and came across a truck unloading brand new cars at a car dealership, and sat watching the driver manipulate the truck and get 7 of the 9 vehicles off. It had hydraulic lifts and parts had to be ratcheted with a bar, while other things flipped back upon themselves to become a temporary surface to drive on, and ramps came out of the back, this part lifted up, that part got lowered down, chains came undone and the cars didn't roll off, the driver had to squeeze here to get into the vehicles to drive them off, while sticking his head out while driving through the truck and I was worried his head might get decapitated so I figured I should stay and watch in case I needed to call an ambulance.... It was like watching a toy come to life, seeing how all the parts worked. I'm sure the driver was wondering about me, sitting on a wall across the street at midnight, watching him, pretending to be stretching. Or maybe it happens to him all the time. I just think it's fascinating, but then again, bridges and roads, big tall buildings and other feats of modern civil engineering tend to captivate my interest, so a truck that lifts and reconfigures into different positions is a logical thing to fascinate me. Or maybe I am just a freak. Who knows.
