Apparently, it was International Movie Night at my house last night.

There was the Argentinian film "El Dia Que Me Amen," then the Israeli (I'm guessing, they were speaking Hebrew and mentioned moving to Tel Aviv) "Broken Wings" and then the ever so delightful Italian movie "Bread & Tulips."

Subtitles galore!

I liked the concept that although we have plenty of road movies here in the US, we are a pretty big country with lots of diversity to explore, the Italians also play tourist in their own country, as the star of the film an Italian housewife who never had been to Venice, despite once yearly journeys about the countryside with her family. We Americans tend to think, how cool it would be to live in Europe, all those opportunities to explore other countries and cultures, without ever having to leave the continent, since we just see one landmass and many cultures and civilizations all lumped together, we tend to galavant about the whole place as one EUROPE, while this movie clearly showed many have aspirations of just visiting a different city, no different than in our own country.

Anyway, Bread & Tulips was a sweet movie, I highly recommend it if you are wanting some proof of the kindness of strangers, and how we tend to make our own new families with the people we care about most.
