I just wanted to share something that made me laugh today, in an otherwise gloomy day.

I listen to podcasts while at work, so I have quite a backlog as I discover a new show I like has podcasts and I add it to my list of things to listen to, or I start listening, but find I am just not in the mood or need to be able to concentrate harder, so I don't get back to it for a while.

Right now I am listening to Harry Shearer's show, Le Show from July 29th, 2007. He was quoting someone who said something about "potential for a 'trainwreck'" when he interrupted himself to say:

"We have to keep our railroads alive, Ladies and Gentlemen, just so that metaphor remains relevant."

Don't you agree? That is exactly the strongest reason to keep our rail system alive in the US of A. So our metaphors make sense. Not like we keep metaphors that have no relevant meaning anymore, oh no. But right now, we have the power of the purse, and can keep those rails running, in support of preserving our metaphors. Yes, we can.
