Back to work again
Hey-ho, Hey-ho,
Structure in my life again
Hey-hi, Hey-hi,
A reason to get dressed up again
Hey-hee, Hey-hee,
Thrilled to be talking to people
Hey-hoo, Hey-hoo.

Really, honest and truly,
I am happy to be back at work.
Happy happy happy.
People, structure, purpose.

Vacation has been good to me.
Relaxed, happy,
excited for the New Year
and what may transpire.
This is where I am at.

And,
using my Christmas present,
I am writing this,
on the internet,
using my new laptop
I got just for this purpose.

The One Laptop Per Child
XO Computer.
Built for children,
to be used by third world students
using open source software.
Give access to
competitive technology
and the concept is,
third world
they may not stay.
Fighting chance.

I bought one
to provide another
and feeling very liberal,
generous, (smug)
(and superior),
for supporting a great non-profit.

Particularly thrilled am I
(why like Yoda write I?)
that this "simple" machine
does the basics I want.

And the wireless internet
that exists in my building's lobby?
Today,
first time,
that's how I'm accessing
this website
right this second.

Checking email,
writing this blog,
and surfing the internet,
this laptop
is small, light,
and built to withstand
harsh conditions.

It's plastic and bright green.

I type this,
no HTML by my hand,
and WYSIWYG!

A built in camera,
built in speaker, microphone,
I can shoot video,
take stills,
and generally record my environment.
Compose music, write,
learn to program,
and play games,
these things are just on it itself,
no internet necessary.

Perfect. I am so happy.
This is exactly what I wanted
for my year long
music festival tour.

So what if not all the websites
can I see their images
or play their videos?
I get an idea,
and it loads faster
for not bothering.

It ain't a T-1 connection,
but it suffices.

Sufficient for now,
for my needs,
I have the option
to always upgrade
to an adult laptop computer.
First world technology.
Money and access.

But with the speed of
advancing technology
in our first world world,
will the XO be sufficent
for its intended recipients
for any significant
amount of time?
