It took four and a half hours to drive the two hours it would normally take, down to San Diego from LA, all in the name of Turkey Dinner.
All of LA was driving to San Diego, all at the same time. All of LA in search of family and feast and communing with food.
The sun was golden, the sun was setting over the mountains and clouds by the time I arrived, the day was ending, it was time to feast.
I arrived just in time to eat.
I ate, we ate, we talked, we listened and watched, dishes were washed, food put away, children played, Jupiter and Venus conjoined, the day was done.
I drove back, a different route, and suddenly, the ghost of Christmas coming rose from everywhere around.
Light displays, shopping specials, front yards, rooftops, shopping malls and billboard signs, all signalled Thanksgiving was gone, and we are only rushing towards Christmas now, turkey and dessert not even digested yet, it is upon us, it is here, the change has come, the final month frenzy has begun.
